One of the more bizarre experiences of my year in German was visiting Lübeck, a picturesque town in the north known for marzipan. After walking around the center of town in the morning, we made our way further north to the Priwall Peninsula to go swimming in the Baltic Sea.
To get to the beach, you had to walk up a narrow, sandy trail, to the right of which were an electrified fence, landmines, German shepherds ready to rip you into shreds, guard towers manned with snipers with orders to shoot to kill.
On the other side were nudists.
